Square Meal review of Au Lac:
Alas for Au Lac, the Arsenal stadium moved down the hill taking with it some of the pre- & post-match business. But this pleasant Vietnamese shouldn’t be overlooked. Chinese & Thai influences have encroached a little onto a long menu, but the fresh Vietnamese rolls – fat prawns wrapped in translucent rice paper – still hit the spot, & spring rolls, nicely accessorised with sprigs of mint & coriander, come filled with distinctively herby minced pork. The crunchy kohlrabi salad with chicken, prawns, peanuts & herbs makes a pleasantly healthy change from stir-fries, many of which aren’t particularly Vietnamese. For that, try the generous meal-in-a-bowl pho noodle soups. Simply furnished with a couple of painted fans on the walls, Au Lac is an unpretentious place to eat, with cheerful service.
