The latest addition to the upmarket Royal China chain opened in early 2007, bringing with it the reassuringly familiar trademark gold & black lacquer interiors & wide-ranging a la carte menu. The likes of dried scallop & shredded duck broth or crispy soft-shell crab might be followed by chicken in yellow bean sauce, or a stone-grilled seafood selection. Royal China’s small but famed dim sum selection is made up of the classics, from silky scallop dumplings & fluffy pork buns to toothsome fried squid paste. Just like its siblings, service can be haphazard, with some even describing it as ‘chronic’. Still, the place is always packed & the no-reservations policy during weekend lunches means you’ll have to queue.
