Square Meal review of Mestizo:
Mexican food has undergone something of a transformation in the capital over the last few years – Londoners no longer expect salty tortilla chips covered in sweet tomato salsa & claggy melted cheese. Mestizo offers up a slice of authentic Mexican cooking & diners have positively taken to its menu of sopes (fried maize topped with refried beans, salsa & cheese), moles (meat in a sauce traditionally made with chocolate) & enchiladas (filled tortillas covered in a spicy sauce). Elsewhere there’s pabellon criollo, a tangy dish of shredded beef with onions, red & black peppers, chillis & garlic, or alternatively you can pick at a selection of antojitos or tacos – the Mexican equivalent of tapas. Wash it all down with margaritas or copious quantities of Mexican beer, or a Bloody Mary if you turn up on Sundays when the overflowing brunch buffet can help cure a hangover.
