An excellent modern Indian that transplants West End chic into a West London suburb: Mantra's elegant decor & sophisticated buzz make it stand out among its rather drab, neglected neighbours on this shopping thoroughfare. The menu blends staples of Anglo-Indian cooking with some imaginative Punjabi flourishes: the tandoor-cooked spring chicken & minced lamb kebabs complement the starter menu well, while the nalli nihari (lamb shanks cooked in a sealed pot with saffron), the ‘Mantra special’ black lentil & cauliflower dishes, & the stir-fried tomato & ginger tilapia are also recommended. Prices are a tad higher than the local competition, but it’s worth paying extra for the great atmosphere & skilful food. Takeaways & an outside catering service are also available.
