Once a grubby old boozer, The Old Crown has been stripped back to the brickwork, & updated with a plum & brown colour palette & artfully deployed flock wallpaper. It all looks rather smart. Full-length doors open up on summer days to give a continental cafe feel & European favourites include Staropramen, Stella & Leffe on tap & Corona & Peroni among the bottles, with Mackeson Stout a welcome nod to Blighty. Wines rarely stray beyond £20 & reasonably priced food encompasses tapas (merguez, falafel, nachos & calamari) as well as more substantial offerings such as pea & ham soup, sea bass on Puy lentil dhal & Eton mess.
