Pale colours & functional decor maximise the feeling of space in this smart but diminutive steakhouse, laid out across several floors in what was once the Angel pub. Downstairs there’s a cocktail bar & casual dining area; the more formal restaurant is on the first floor, with rooms for private dining above & below. To start, Baltimore crab cakes are served with rémoulade sauce & red pepper jam, while mains revolve around ‘perfect & enjoyable’ USDA-certified Nebraskan steaks: peppered 10oz New York strip with garlic mash & bordelaise sauce or, perhaps, a grilled fillet with buttered spinach & grilled asparagus. There’s plenty of beef-friendly red to drink – including a 2007 Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon – although some find the list ‘overpriced’. Staff are clued-up, but sometimes struggle to cope.
