Square Meal review of The John Snow: ? Write your review

A plaque outside marks the site of a dodgy water pump identified by 19th-century physician Dr John Snow as the source of a cholera epidemic in 1854. The disease, which had hitherto been assumed to be airborne, is, as we all now know, waterborne, so you’ll be just fine if you stick to any of Yorkshire brewer Samuel Smith’s ales, porter & stouts on offer at this handsome corner tavern, with its burnt-ochre exterior, frosted-glass windows & hanging lanterns. The pub is over two floors, its trad food & noticeable lack of music a draw to those who engage in serious conversation & media folk (not that the two groups are mutually exclusive).
