Trattoria la Ruga

A little piece of Italy in the heart of Walthamstow, Trattoria La Ruga charms locals with unpretentious cooking strong on fish & seafood. A cosy place with just 10 tables, the daily changing menu is chalked up in Italian on blackboards. Start with the flavourful likes of grilled tiger prawns with butter, garlic & parsley, followed by fillet of sea bass with fennel, white wine & parsley, or wild boar on a bed of grilled vegetables, with porcini & cream sauce; rounded off with good old tiramisu. Waiting time for dishes can feel long, but that’s the price for having everything cooked on the spot, & while it may not be cheap for E17 (mains are around £16) it doesn’t bother fans & booking at weekends is advisable.
