Charterhouse

Located in a beautiful triangular building shaped like a wedge of cake, this hip two-storey bar pulls in the party crowd at night with its late licence & a changing line-up of DJs. Charterhouse is emphatically a place to be seen – thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that run the length of each wall. By day, however, the sunlight that occasionally floods in exposes the rather tatty state of the leather sofas & wooden floors. Perhaps this explains why the venue is often empty at lunchtime, despite plates of pasta, risotto & curries selling for under a fiver, along with basic burgers, pies & piles of chilli nachos. Draught beer is limited to Kronenbourg & Guinness, although most punters stick to the concise list of classic cocktails, which runs from mai tais to cosmopolitans.
