Tucked away behind the Royal Courts of Justice, this tiny pub attracts a strange mix of red-faced barristers in search of liquid refreshment & wide-eyed tourists looking to soak up some London history. Neither group leaves disappointed. The lawyers are well watered with frothy pints of Adnams & good-value Burgundy, while the tourists marvel at a pub that has survived the Great Fire of London & celebrated its 400th birthday in 2002. Charismatic owner & chef Roxy Beaujolais keeps everyone in line with some strict house rules – ‘no horseplay, no magicians & no clogs’ are just three of them – when she’s not busy cooking up hearty homely grub, from steaks to mussels.
