Jun Tanaka’s impressive restaurant in the airy, high-pillared grandeur of Pearl Assurance’s former London HQ also includes a destination bar that is the envy of many a grand London hotel. The Cruvinet stay-fresh system allows 32 top-notch wines to be served by the glass or in flights of three. Cocktails that cost an average £9 are a match for the sumptuous twinkling elegance of the surroundings: Chillout Tea (Amaretto, Licor 43, lemon tea, lemongrass & ginger cordial) is typical of an innovative list that sets out to impress, although the classics – & particularly a strong range of variations on the caipirinha – are all present & correct.
