Hat & Feathers

The Hat & Feathers was a defunct Victorian pub that languished empty in a corner of Clerkenwell until its phoenix-like re-emergence in late 2006. Its wedding cake exterior duly re-iced, its woody interior a partly successful approximation of its youthful self, it has been gathering a following for its upstairs fine-dining menus (see separate review). The downstairs pub boasts gas lighting & a modern bar that would look better in a small hotel rather than a Victorian pub. Above-average bar food includes steak sandwich, duck risotto, exotic leaf salads & fish & chips backed by cocktails, a classy wine list with several by the glass & an undemanding beer offer that includes London Pride. The addition of a funky decked alfresco terrace & bar/grill proved a success last summer.
