There are two floors more or less devoted to drinking at John Torode’s multi-storey Smithfield behemoth – the ultimate meet market when demob-happy workers get tanked up. On the ground-floor an industrial fit-out in sandblasted brick, raw concrete, reclaimed timber, mighty girders & blood-red accents recalls Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, with the best seats on the squishy retro sofas. Level 1’s cocktail bar is a smarter affair where the upbeat crowd get flirty on any of 140 wine bins, blokey beers, or £6 martinis. Still a must-visit institution in these parts.
