The Market Thai

Perched above the Rasta-goth destination Market Bar, this long-established Thai actually looks Moorish rather than Asian, with its ornate archways & dark wooden furniture, but there’s no mistaking the provenance of its menu. The kitchen generally sticks to the usual line-up, but offers the odd surprise along the way: to begin, you could bypass spring rolls & satay sticks in favour of grilled marinated pork with ground chilli sauce, & main dishes of red & green curries vie for attention with a fiery ‘jungle curry’ cooked in traditional northern style without coconut milk. The pad Thai is excellent too, but for something a little different, try the spicy ‘drunken noodles’ with fresh chilli & basil – a Bangkok street-food favourite guaranteed to clear your head. There is also a one-plate express lunch menu.
