Claiming to offer ‘a lot of Japanese under one roof’, this popular old-timer has legions of fans. They come for good-value noodles & sushi, dished up in colourful canteen-like surroundings. The set-up resembles a quirky Wagamama: customers share communal benches, waiters appear quickly to take your order, & dishes arrive lickety-split. The menu spans everything from yaki udon to curry somen, beef ramen & well-executed sushi. Standards are generally higher (& prices much lower) than at chain-restaurant equivalents. The drinks list is stocked with beer, saké & a handful of wines, but don’t expect to dwell over a bottle or two: this is more a quick-fix location. As well as offering bento boxes, New Fujiyama has a delivery service – although locals warn against trying on busy Friday & Saturday nights.
