This kosher cafe has been plying its trade on Golders Green High Street for many years. A recent makeover has left it looking slightly more modern, though the old-school service & the huge mural that overlooks the dining room are still in place. Diners come for a taste of food from the shtetl. Chopped liver, egg & onion & chicken soup with kneidlach (motza balls) lead the way with starters, then there’s cholent (a meat & bean stew), Vienna sausages & salt beef sandwiches served up with potato latkes, pickled cucumbers, & sweet & sour cabbage. Wash it all down with kosher wine & beer. There’s also a takeaway counter, & a sister restaurant in Edgware (313 Hale Lane, tel: 020 8958 2229).
