Edgy music, hot bar staff, a heated garden & a roof terrace overlooking the Stables market – it’s little wonder the Lock Tavern is still silly-busy most nights of the week. An ultra-trendy crowd fill the cosy interior (battered couches, vintage furniture), soaking up the music: anything from big-name acts like Vampire Weekend & Belle & Sebastian to hot-shot DJs. Pints of Peroni & Amstel, plus bottles of Estrella Damm, satisfy beer swillers, or there’s a reasonable choice of whites & reds. The Lock’s creature-comfort food (sausages & mash, fish & chips, burgers & suchlike) must be ordered at the bar. Alternatively, barbecues are served outdoors when the sun shines. There’s not much to complain about here – except the grotty toilets.
