Once marooned in a no-go zone, the trendification of Hoxton has spilled over to encompass this former EastEnders-style local. The skinny jeans & ironic haircut crew flock here, attracted by a whole array of events: late-night DJ sets, live jam sessions, achingly cool gigs, record launch parties (it’s owned & run by musicians), cabaret & performance art. Favoured draughts include Guinness, Amstel & Grolsch (no bitter, though), while wines start from around £12. If you’re feeling peckish, perhaps load up somewhere else first as we’re told that the tapas-style food is currently ‘on & off’. That’s Hoxton for you – all so infuriatingly laid-back.
