Still top dog among the capital’s quality burger joints, GBK’s star shows no sign of waning just yet. As a chain, it refuses to dilute or over-price what it does best – serving up ‘reliably good’ & imaginative stuff in buns. From the classic with mayo, salad & relish, through to the Mexican (embellished with sour cream, avocado, spicy kidney beans & salsa) or the Kiwi (beetroot, egg, pineapple & cheese) the chain delivers on its promise. A handful of salads (perhaps butternut squash & chilli chicken) are light alternatives, & the menu is fleshed out with various sides (New Zealand-style coleslaw, chips & dipping sauces). The 13-bin wine list leans towards the New World, but a trip to any branch isn’t complete without sampling one of GBK’s indulgent milkshakes – including chocolate, banana & Oreo.
