Great Nepalese Restaurant

Wedged in between the massage parlours & porn shops behind Euston station, the Great Nepalese has been a terrific neighbourhood asset for almost 30 years – thanks to the tireless efforts of the ever-genial Manandhar family. What it offers is genuine, affordably priced Nepalese food in gregarious, hospitable surroundings. Kick off with deep-fried masco bara (lentil pancakes) or spicy barbecued mutton, ahead of a fiery regional version of chicken masala served with boiled egg, or aloo bodi tama (a dish of potato, bamboo shoots & black-eyed beans), with a cold bottle of Kathmandu lager to hand. There are more familiar curry-house staples too (tandooris, biryanis, kormas), but the Nepalese music, ethnic artefacts & pictures of Gurkhas will remind you that you haven’t just ‘gone for an Indian’.
