Dark wood, subtle lighting & acres of exposed brick create a familiar & laid-back vibe at this basement branch of the Jamies empire close to Fenchurch Street station. When it comes to food, beer-battered cod or haddock & chips is the speciality here, & the rest of the menu also shows a strong bias towards seafood – from grilled sea bass basquaise on a bed of onions, fennel, tomatoes & mixed peppers to a fish pie loaded with cod, prawns, salmon & smoked haddock in a cream sauce. Simpler fare including hot & cold sandwiches is available at the bar. Jamies’ ever-dependable & carefully annotated wine list provides a goodly amount of satisfying drinking, from a Pinot Noir Valmoissine du Verdon ’08 from Provence (£27.20) to a surprisingly large selection of rosés.
