Square Meal Review of Cote Wardour Street ?

Since launching in 2007, this venture – from the team that grew the Strada business – has opened no fewer than 20 branches nationwide, with more on their way. As Goldilocks might say, Côte is ‘just right’. Bistro interiors are handsome but not showy, ‘first-rate’ staff are friendly without seeming intrusive, & the menu teems with everyday, affordable French dishes that people can’t wait to eat. Tempting starters of pork & duck rillettes or well-seasoned steak tartare give way to mains for all appetites, from salad niçoise to confit duck with braised red cabbage. Best of all, the ‘plats rapides’ are just that – quick, simple platefuls such as minute steak or moules-frites, designed to have you fed & watered in a jiffy – so you can actually ‘eat out in your lunch break’, just like our lucky Parisian cousins.

Côte was an impulse decision made whilst walking down Wardour Street looking for a quick bite to eat. We were seated immediately, drinks and bread quickly followed, the Bistro options were very reasonably priced, food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. The Wine list was a little limiting as their best Bordeaux was a Fifth Growth (the quick bite had suddenly turned into a fully blown 3 course meal), but a perfectly decent bottle was found which exalted our main courses of Steak and special of Venison, a small Cheese course to finish off the Wine signalling the end of a very good meal indeed. Highly recommended.

Been several times now, the best chicken and french fries in town. Like many good things, its a simple idea well executed. French bistro style, simple menu, good wine list not long but carefully selected and reasonably priced. Serving staff I would say have been recruited more for their visual appeal than their experience but they are enthusiastic, friendly and keen to learn! Atmostphere is as you would want it to be for a restaurant situated in the most vibrant part of town. I think its fabulous value for money, you would be hard pressed to source and cook ingredients of this quality cheaper yourself.
Great for chicken lovers of all ages, not so good for those who would be just as happy with a KFC.

Would now revise my view of staff, went last week ( Nov 2010 ) and was served by a very knowledgeable young lady. What they do they still do very well indeed, whats not to like about very good chicken and chips!

I love this restaurant the staff are helpful and friendly and the food is divine, they do a great ‘Quick Lunch’ menu and it is always out in time so that you can have lunch out in your hour lunch break, I have now eaten here about six times as the steak and moules are divine, it is not expensive and great for people watching.
    Well worth a visit
