It’s ironic that this high-ceilinged café just inside the entrance to The Wellcome Collection – a museum charting the history of medical science – should have a slight air of the clone about it. Clinical white walls form a backdrop for candy-coloured furnishings in a vision of a classic British teashop that’s almost too good to be true. Not unlike the scientific exhibits around the corner, freshly baked cakes (coffee & walnut, lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge) are protected by glass. The menu also extends to cold quiches, salads & excellent British bacon sarnies, plus a couple of hot lunchtime specials – slow-cooked salmon & salad, say. The close proximity of the museum’s gift shop means you can dream up an obscure yet brilliant purchase over your cuppa.
