Monkey & Me doesn’t give much away; its cool grey & white rooms, with smart lighting & serried ranks of wine, could be home to almost any cuisine. But locals know that this ‘great-value’ little restaurant is a purveyor of decent Thai food, served with a touch of style & humour. A dish known as ‘lord of the ring’ is a play on the shape of squid, while deep-fried fish balls might come wrapped in bacon. Spicy soups & salads (including an unusual tuna version) are all present & correct, & there are plenty of noodles too; otherwise, go-to specials include roast duck with red curry, coconut milk & pineapple, & a papaya salad with chicken & sticky rice. Standards are high, service is personable & wine prices are gratifyingly low.
