The Refinery

You might think a venue that mixes industrial & postmodern design with gothic & 50s kitsch, then throws in a few bright deckchairs for good measure, was dazed & confused, but The Refinery is actually bang on the money. Young media types from the Blue Fin Building upstairs love the leftfield look & flock here after work for continental lagers, well-chosen wines from a list that’s helpfully divided up by style, & seasonal cocktails such as the summery tea at ten (Tanqueray No. 10 gin, pressed apple juice, elderflower cordial & camomile tea). They also feast on sharing plates such as the Neal’s Yard cheeseboard, sticky BBQ-glazed pork burgers, prawn & lemongrass lollipops or grilled asparagus risotto. Comfortable outside seating & a pétanque pitch are a bonus in the summer months.
