Square Meal Review of Skylon (bar) ?

Most agree that the Skylon bar comes into its own during blue-sky afternoons, or clear indigo evenings, when the glittering skyline shines from across the Thames. But it’s also agreeable for cosying up with a peach-infused whisky heated over hibiscus tea & some spiced mushroom ‘cigarettes’. Positioned between the buzzing Grill & the civilised clink of the Restaurant, it soaks up the best of both worlds, although the din can be ‘overpowering’. First-class mixology is evident across the board, & the ‘Skylon classic collection’ contains zingers such as the summery zeal raspberries, a scrumptious shake-up of fresh raspberries, mint & ginger with raspberry vodka, lychee liqueur & pomegranate juice. Not cheap, especially if you factor in global nibbles such as honey-glazed chorizo or crispy pork rolls.

The noise in the restaurant was overpowering. There should be a screen or partition between the bar and the restaurant. Service was attentive but they failed to bring the coffee until prompted. Food was of a high standard but far too expensive. We paid £60 per head for two courses with some very indifferent house wine. Why or why must these establishment mark up by 400%? Better value and ambience is available at the Ritz and they include service charge in their prices

What the South Bank and indeed London has needed for a long time. A bar so good you feel like you're in a buzzing metropolis like NY or Tokyo, a rare sensation in clonky old London. Superb views, great drinks, lovely bar snacks. Dangerous nibbley things though – I managed to polish of two dishes of fried maize and cranberries before they were forcibly removed from my reach by my boyfriend, ever concerned for my waistline…

Mouth watering menus and spectacular views by night, Skylon offers superb wines served by their own someliers (mostly beatiful and refined french ladies) that are more interested in the wine complimeting you meal that making you spend your hard earned cash. Skylon is luxury at it's best. Available for private functions, this is the place to go for treating 300+ guests to a fabulous evening overlooking the river. The events team are disgustingly helpful!
