If the circular bar at 1 Lombard Street benefits from the softer colours and subtle sound-deadening that have also updated the Brasserie, there's no blunting the drama of its setting in a former banking hall. With a soaring domed skylight overhead, it remains one of the Square Mile's prime spots for business socialising. Nibble giant Cerignola olives or quails' eggs with celery salt, fill up with moules-frites or graze on charcuterie while making your way through the cocktail list, which includes signature mixes such as the French sour (cherry liqueur, almonds, plum bitters, egg white and lemon juice) alongside sweeter options and teetotal mocktails. The epitome of time-poor City bustle at lunchtime, it's altogether more chilled and expansive in the evening.
