Indian restaurants are commonplace hereabouts, but Mango & Silk stands out because of its cheerful eager-to-help service, its seemly lilac-hued surroundings & above all its talented chef. At the stove is the effervescent chef & food writer Udit Sarkhel, who forged his reputation at the Bombay Brasserie. His once-experimental style has been tempered, & you’ll now find an eclectic mix of dishes from across the subcontinent. Followers can’t resist Sarkhel’s Hyderabadi chicken sixers & the eye-watering Goan prawn masala. Jardaloo ma gosht, where apricots & straw potatoes counteract the heat, is pretty tempting too. British curry traditionalists are also catered for, with lamb rogan josh, chicken korma & chicken tikka masala all up to the mark. The woman who runs the front of house is well-practised at making wine recommendations.
