Such is the popularity of Orford Saloon, Walthamstow’s blue & white-tiled taste of España, that the restaurant has had to double in size to accommodate its gambas-crazed punters. The new covered conservatory should relieve the pressure on busy nights, however, the roundly disliked double sitting policy at weekends remains in place. The menu is pan-Hispanic & exhaustive, offering four kinds of paella, shellfish every which way, & two types of tortilla, ‘plenty of interesting & tasty specials’ & ‘delicious crema catalana’. The kitchen makes a decent fist of things & carries out its duties without pretence – exactly as a decent local should. Prices are low & portions large. Behind the bar is a good choice of Spanish wines & sherries.
