Waterloo Brasserie

This sassy new venue opposite The Old Vic comes courtesy of the team behind Chelsea’s Cheyne Walk Brasserie & offers much more than the expected pre- & post-theatre fodder. Menus run the gamut of French brasserie classics, from croque monsieur to onion soup, barigoule to cassoulet, while on Sundays a traditional roast is offered. In contrast to the super-slick, black & orange surroundings, service is a little slapdash. But the food delivers: a starter of seared scallops with Puy lentils features nicely timed shellfish, while moreish lamb shank, cooked for seven hours, is winningly paired with butternut squash puree & red wine reduction. Wine lovers will find additional comfort in an impressive 200-bin list that roams the world &, as you'd expect, features some great French bottles. Notable private room, too.
