A tweaked name, a slick of new paint, some slouchy couches & a brighter-looking bar signal a change of direction at what was the Waterloo Brasserie. Instead of bourgeois French classics, the kitchen now puts most of its faith in club sandwiches, bold burgers (chicken with harissa & tzatziki), salads & meaty grills (Longhorn rib-eye, Barnsley chop with champ); one fan declares the new streamlined menu ‘simple & very well executed’. Additional comfort appears in the shape of bushy-tailed breakfasts (pancakes, omelettes & so on), while sharing plates & happy hours cater to Waterloo’s workers, who are more than happy to indulge in a ‘guilty pleasures’ platter loaded with spicy wings, onion rings, potato wedges, sticky ribs & more. An agreeable & atmospheric pre/post-theatre standby for patrons of the Old Vic, too.
