Westbourne House has risen on the site of defunct boozer the Shakespeare, but is this new West End-style cocktail joint with regulation rococo decor a case of much ado about nothing? Happily, style – ostentatious regal thrones, lounge-lizardy chaise longues & ornate chandeliers – does not overshadow content, with fine classic cocktails at around £7.50 using premium brands such as hip new vodka Snow Leopard. They are joined by some pretty leftfield stuff – Marmite Margarita, anyone? Tables with inset Champagne buckets are begging for blingy Premiership footballers to rock up with their entourage, but, this being Westbourne Grove, the clientele comprises a mix of moneyed continental imports, yummy mummies & local PR & new-media mavens.
