Square Meal review of Green Carnation:
This new gay bar’s wood-panelled, flock-lined salons, lit by twinkling chandeliers, evoke the baroque extravagance of Oscar Wilde, who wore a green carnation as a buttonhole – a cipher for the love that then did not dare speak its name. Fast forward to 2007 & flamboyant scene-queens lounge on plush banquettes & boast about their weekend bed-hopping arrangements over £6 cocktails such as a Vesper Martini or Long Island Iced Tea. In the mirrored dance bar, Kronenbourg Cold & similar strong lagers fuel the party, but there’s a fair range of wines & premium spirits too. Burlesque, cabaret & poetry evenings are also part of the attractions at this refreshing arrival on the Soho scene.
