You mightn’t think it from the bland decor & cheap leather sofas that would look more at home in an episode of Wife Swap, but this new Borough basement bar does a stellar line in cocktails. The staff’s palpable enthusiasm for their craft rubs off, encouraging you to try out variations on themes they’ll happily suggest all night. Whether you choose that classic Southern belle tipple, the Julep – served here in several ways – or a seasonal mix such as Bolero Sour (a summery muddle of rum, Cognac, fresh lime, orange & sugar), you won’t be disappointed. We haven’t yet worked up to The Extravagant, a Cristal & Hennessy Paradis-based beauty for five people to share, which comes with a £300 price tag & sadly isn’t knocked down during happy hour which runs till a very acceptable 9pm.
