‘Paradise is a fantastic spot,’ declares one fan of this groovy bar/restaurant/club combo, which can generate a great night out without the need to spend lavishly. Decked out in idiosyncratic style, it’s a sprawling place featuring alcove libraries, a music room hosting nightly DJs, various outdoor spaces swathed in greenery, & a roomy dining area. The kitchen tries hard to impress, but opinions differ on the likes of Dorset crab & apple cocktail or roast rump of lamb with spiced aubergine & mint yoghurt: some claim the food is mediocre, others love it. Brunches (maybe farmhouse sausages with bubble & squeak & HP gravy) can be accompanied by blooming good bloody Marys (from a classic cocktail menu), or there’s an intelligently annotated wine list. Several areas can be booked in advance: ideal for partying groups.
