Square Meal Review of Paradise by way of Kensal Green ?

‘Paradise is a fantastic spot,’ declares one fan of this groovy bar/restaurant/club combo, which can generate a great night out without the need to spend lavishly. Decked out in idiosyncratic style, it’s a sprawling place featuring alcove libraries, a music room hosting nightly DJs, various outdoor spaces swathed in greenery, & a roomy dining area. The kitchen tries hard to impress, but opinions differ on the likes of Dorset crab & apple cocktail or roast rump of lamb with spiced aubergine & mint yoghurt: some claim the food is mediocre, others love it. Brunches (maybe farmhouse sausages with bubble & squeak & HP gravy) can be accompanied by blooming good bloody Marys (from a classic cocktail menu), or there’s an intelligently annotated wine list. Several areas can be booked in advance: ideal for partying groups.

Managed to get to Paradise this weekend after hearing so many good things from friends – wish I had gone sooner! It’s an amazing place with some real style… same goes for the food! Everything perfectly cooked with lots of flavour. …Definitely now one of our favourite places to eat and drink in London – highly recommended.

I am quite partial to a mid week evening out, especially if it's a birthday – and especially if it's your girl friends 30th birthday!

We haven't been to the Paradise before, but we came on a recommendation from a good friend. I didn't want to go overboard in a flashy west restaurant – but this place was spot on.

The décor was pretty decadent, and my girlfriend loved it. It's quirky and not off putting or garish.

We received a warm welcome and had cocktails at the bar as we were waiting for our table.
I am something of a cocktail buff, but these guys were spot on and were able to talk to us whilst making them and I was impressed that they asked how I liked my Old Fashioned.
Even though it was just the 2 of us, and the restaurant was busy- we were not ignored and have very attentive service. The waiter we had has quite a character and was happy to answer all menu queries.

The food was great – and there were 2 very clean plates at the end. I definitely recommend the Oysters and the Sirloin steak!
My girl friend was a huge fan of the Chocolate Espresso martini's … a new favourite.

I would like to thanks the staff of The Paradise for making our evening a huge success and saving me from the dog house!

    James

Of all the restaurants I have been recently –this is my favorite. I have been on weekends evening, mid-week and for brunch and every time I see a new menu full of exciting thing I can’t wait to try.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and loads of wine by the glass (I always want red, he always want’s white). Last time we popped in for dinner we ended up dancing until the early hours in the club upstairs

We had crab cocktail to start followed by sea bass, the boy had scallops followed by the lamb. Sadly not enough room for a actual pudding so we shared a delicious sticky toffee pudding

I love this place. will be back very soon indeed

Im surprised this got a ‘best of northwest’ in Squaremeal, i think they need to update their records somewhere.

We recently went to Paradise for a spot of dinner. Each time ive driven past on the weekend, there always seemed to be a huge queue to get in with various girls who looked like they were from TOWIE. Anyway, i was surprised on a Thursday night to find the dining area sparsely full of much older people. The rest of the bar was much quieter too – so a huge contrast from the weekends.

Anyway, foodwise – its standard gastropub fayre – steak, chicken, crab, partridge, risotto etc etc. Food was nothing exceptional but relatively well cooked. Desserts was similar. Cheesecake looked like the gelatine version rather than the usual delicious baked type but was ok. Service was friendly but very slow and the place got busier as the night went on but still a much older more subdued crowd. There is a ‘beer garden’ which is small but where you can eat. Unfortunately the door to the kitchen is there and you find the chefs storming in and out for breaks which doesnt give the best of impressions.

This place is expensive – for two people, its close to £70 though now ive spotted the 50% off on here, id rather have gone elsewhere on the Thursday (offer not available on Thursdays) and if i had to come here, id do so on another night and got the discount. £70 for two is hefty for what is quite average food. Youre there for the kooky decor but nothing else. Alternatives are definitely The Westbourne which is a short drive away and is far better but im afraid Paradise isnt worth a second visit.

After having had a rather disappointing first experience at this restaurant, I posted a review on this website – and the restaurant got in touch with me. They offered us to come back and have a meal on the house. I was very impressed by this swift action. We returned here on the 11th of June. The staff made a huge effort, they were very attentive. I had the scallops and the seabass, my husband the lobster salad and the halibut. Overall I'd say the food was good, but I wouldn't say I have to come back for more. It's good cooking – but nothing to write home about. But I would always recommend Paradise to anybody who is looking for a stylish and busy gastro-pub venue, with attentive staff and a good vibe.

While out with friends we stopped into the Paradise for drinks. We ultimately did not plan on eating but after a short time we felt quite comfortable in the West London gastro pub. The decor was ornate yet comforting, the drinks reasonably priced, and something about the atmosphere and watching the odd dish go by must have convinced us to stay put. Before I knew it we had ordered another bottle of wine and were polishing off our decadent entrees while considering dessert. As a tip, you may want to try the banoffee pie with a scotch or glass of port before setting off. My out of town friends adored the place and I should arrange for my next event there. Kudos.

went to the Paradise for a Sunday Lunch on our wedding anniversary which unfortunately coincided with Easter day this year. We both had the roast beef which was cut far too thick and was grissly and bistoiy
Infact the whole meal was a disappointment especially since I have had really good food here pastimes.
Still, it was Easter and although the staff were friendly I couldn't help feeling that they had drawn the short straw to be working that day.

I am really looking forward to going back to the Paradise, as I had a great time with my family.

It's a really pretty pub and has lots of area's to discover, and I have just found out it has big names in the DJ world that play here on weekends … so I will be coming back for drinks and dancing!

Food wise, It was tasty, and even left my mum short of words, which is rare! I tried the Pheasant as I had never tried it before and I wanted to further my horizons and I wasn't left disappointed. My parents shared the Cote de Boeuf – which looked amazing and from what I hear – very satisfying. I would like to be able to do that dish at home, as it is certainly takes center stage and is very impressive

I would totally recommend the Paradise to anyone wanting to go somewhere special and not spend mega bucks! Even though my dad paid – he didn't complain about the bill. Good times.

Went down to Paradise last Monday. A friend recommended it so me and my girl decided to give it a try. We were very impressed with the decor to start off with. The waitress was very friendly, not over the top like some and knew what she was talking about when recommending us dishes. We got our food fairly quickly. My Shepard's pie was good but my better half enjoyed her veg dish a bit more. A great place i would recommend to anyone and to be fair very affordable for what The Paradise is.

This is a great venue for dinks and a night out, but I really would eat somewhere else first. I have never had a great meal here, but the last time was possibly the worst dining experience I care to remember.
It was a birthday for 12 people, but we arrived to a table for 8, despite calling the restaurant that day to confirm.
But it was the food that was unforgettable, for the wrong reasons.
4 of us complained and 3 sent back including a simple risotto. My pidgeon was actually 50% raw. How it got out the kitchen I have no idea but it would have made you ill. It also stank so bad that the girl next to me commented. And before you think that it's game and smells strongly, the guy next to me had one that was fine. Of our 12 nobody was particularly happy.
I wouldnt knock the venue itself as it has some great bars, over a couple of floors and is a great night. But eat at your peril.

A very lovely surprise, one of the girls had recently moved over to Kensal and invited us out for a meal at her local…i wasn't expecting what the Paradise was.
We had a quick drink in the bar where the staff were friendly like a local pub and when we were led by my friend into the restaurant i was a little shocked i had been expecting to eat in the bar. The waitress was lovely and chose a very good wine for us after we couldn't make the decision ourselves. We did the normal of choosing a few things and sharing for starters, the crab was probably my highlight there. For mains i shared the Cote du Boeuf with some greens, rather than 2 us of having steaks which proved to be an amazing choice…we couldn't manage the chips and neither of us wanted to leave any of the meat it was so good and the greens were yummy. With no room left for pudding we were given one last helpful suggestion by our waitress…espresso Martini’s all round. A really good girls night out a very pretty quirky place with friendly helpful staff, good food, wine and cocktails.

I visited Paradise for dinner a few Fridays ago. I had been for drinks and to party quite some time back and having reviewed the reviews and menu on line, my boyfriend and I were very much looking foward to it.
Firstly we arrived for pre dinner drinks and every single table was reserved. We asked the barman if we could add our drinks to our dinner tab rather than have two separate bills, but he had no idea what we were requesting and said no, which was very odd! He even double checked and it was still no.
The menu was over the top but the meals had no reflection on the descriptions at all. Which surely our waiting staff would (or should) know. We did discuss openly infront of our waitress whether to go for sides as the description made out that we didn't need any. No prompting from her, fine we went striaght in with them on their own. They were minute and definitely could do with sides.
We called our waiter over and explained that no direction was given and now we are hungry and he didn't offer to rush out any sides, he seems confused and totally not on the ball and offered a dessert menu!
Our starters took forever to come as did our mains, our starters were very dissappointing, the pigeon dish was a joke. They poured some liquid which wasn't explained, onto it and served it without a spoon! We skipped dessert and went for a coffee elsewhere.
For a drink, fine go, but for dinner I'd suggest going elsewhere.

I booked this restaurant as a birthday treat after doing quite a bit of research and only finding good reviews. I think the place itself looks good, romantic and quite cool but a bit drafty.
Tap water arrived immediately without the usual having to ask a few times that you get at most bars and a lot of restaurants but, after that service was very slow.
The food sounded great on the menu but we were disappointed when it arrived. The chicken and foie gras terrine was very tasty but the homemade brioche it was served with was very dry and crumbly and my salad of goats curd and baby beets was very boring and not well presented. For mains the steak was also tasty but small with a couple of potato wedges dumped on the plate next to it and my chicken again was very boring and badly presented.
We both liked one of the side dishes of courgettes but that's not enough to make the meal.
The wine again was ok, not great, but we did have one of the cheaper Riojas and the chocolate moose for desert was quite nice.
Altogether a very average meal not befitting of the good reviews and word of mouth. I'd expect more in the price range and in London given the amount of competition with other restaurants. It's probably more acceptable if you go with a 50% off deal or something similar.

Living locally in Kensal Rise, the Paradise is our home from home. We can always rely on a fantastic meal, sublime, friendly service and great value for money. My particular favorites have to be the rock oysters, which are always huge and fresh, the briand – soft as velvet and just melts in the mouth and the chocolate mousse. Sundays are a real treat, get these early to get all the papers and a fabulous roast – every vegetable you can think of, yorkie puds and a choice of beef, chicken, lamb or port (my favorite as comes with a thick layer of crackling). Great place, great food – it remains our favorite hang out in west london

I have recently moved to West London and had heard off friends that The Paradise was a place I had to go to. We booked a table on a Friday night with planes to move on somewhere else. My plans soon changed once I had spent 5 minutes there. The food was amazing quality and the service was relaxed but professional. I left at 2am after having an amazing time in ‘Music Room’ . Great cocktails , great music. Would strongly recommend you try this place. Would be missing out if you did not !!!

When I first heard that one of my best girl friends was having her birthday dinner at Paradise by way of Kensal Green, I went, Paradise wha??? Apparently she had discovered this beautiful place near Ladbroke Grove that had a great ambience and even better food. So there I was on a Monday night not entirely convinced this would be a fabulous night out, what with the place located very near to the Kensal Green cemetary. But was I wrong! Paradise could probably be my find of the year! We were sat in a pretty yet kinky dining room with some amazing music playing in the background. The food, I had the roast turbot – was amazing and had such a delicate and beautiful flavour. The recommended wines went smooth with the food and the sticky toffee pudding has been the best I've had in a long time. After we took a tour of the place (this is a massive building) and discovered some gorgeous function rooms for private parties. I have already booked one for mine! That's how much I love the place, and am sure will be coming back for more. What a charming find in West London!

Over the weekend some friends and I visited The Paradise. We booked the Private Dining Room to have a roast, I believe it's called “host your roast”. We had a beautifully cooked leg of lamb with all the trimmings, it was so nice to have a roast in a pub and not have to do anything but still have the privacy you would have at home by using the private room.

After lunch we sat out on the sunny roof terrace for a couple of glasses of wine, a great way to spend a lazy Sunday would reccommend!
