The crew behind The Westbury in Kilburn & Islington’s Old Queen’s Head now owns this charming gastropub & they have given it a sensitive refurb while preserving its bohemian charm – think mismatched furniture, oil paintings, cherubs & birdcages hanging from the ceiling. The dining room is a bustling spot offering a reasonably priced menu, with hearty portions. Warm vermicelli noodles laced with fresh crab, pomelo & flecks of chilli might kick-start your meal nicely, moving on to pan-fried sea bass on a bed of spiced Puy lentils, or perfectly pink rump of lamb with a warm salad of new potatoes & green beans. Sticky toffee pudding & knickerbocker glory feature on a pleasing list of puds, while 30-odd wines start at £13, & a snappy cocktail list offers a Raspberry Collins at £6.50.
