Expectations are high as you approach ‘wonderful’ Kenza: walk through the alleyway by Devonshire Square, traverse the plush red carpet & proceed down a beautiful spiral staircase to reach the gorgeous dining room replete with plush sofas, comfy chairs & private booths. If you’re looking for a quick fix, seek out the cocktail lounge & sip a junan (Champagne, Tanqueray gin, & cinnamon-marinated pear) while you nibble on wraps & dips. Otherwise, go all the way in the main restaurant, where the menu touts kibbeh & pastries, ‘excellent’ slow-roasted lamb dishes & various seafood specialities such as samak bill rimman (pomegranate-glazed salmon fillet served with courgette & cucumber salad). Readers love Kenza’s ‘air of souk-like fantasy’, although some regulars feel that this jewel could do with a bit of polishing, especially on the service front.
