If you’re pining for the Côte d’Azur, or neighbouring Liguria, you might consider heading over to La Petite Maison, which aims to capture some of that region’s gastronomic spirit. Tables outside add to the illusion and if the sun’s out you can pretend you’re at its sibling glam-magnet in Nice. The whole place fizzes with bonhomie, action and laughter, helped by the menu’s egalitarian ‘sharing’ concept. Expect some decent Med-inspired flavours, based on ultra-fresh ingredients: pissaladière is a delicate and refined version, full of flavour, while plats principaux could range from a tender grilledveal chop or lamb cutlets with smoked aubergine to whole sea bream cooked en papillote with lemon and herbs. Pain perdu with spice ice cream makes a decent finish, and the Franco-Italian wine list does its job – just brace yourself for some ‘painful’ prices.
