Before this sprawling venue was taken over by the team behind The Old Queen’s Head in Islington, only the brave (or masochistic) would have ventured in. But in its new guise as an Edwardian pool hall-cum-late-night DJ bar, it’s proving hugely hip. The cocktail list focuses on the classics: Caipirinha, Mojito & Brandy Alexander are all well made & priced about right at £7. Otherwise, there are familiar lagers & ciders plus a concise New World-led wine list that peaks with a Tasmanian Pinot Noir at £30. Factor in a selection of proper dim sum, gyoza, tempura, sushi & other Asian nibbles & The Westbury nails any lingering prejudice that Kilburn is exclusively fuelled by Guinness & ropey Irish stew.
