Square Meal review of Aubaine:
This new Mayfair branch of Aubaine very much replicates its older South Ken sibling, serving pastries at breakfast & afternoon tea, tartines & salads at lunch & more substantial bistro-style dishes in the evening. The interior, too, looks like the original, mixing quaint country furniture & urban industrial touches to good effect. The cooking works best at its simplest: light & fresh starters of tuna tartare with guacamole or langoustine & rocket salad are preferable to mains of perfectly cooked scallops mismatched with a passionfruit dressing & a pleasant but pedestrian magret of duck with orange sauce. Desserts such as mini tarts of chocolate & banana or caramelised apple are excellent.
