Tucked down a quiet South Ken side street, Bowler Bar & Grill is a laid-back, middle-of-the-road eating & drinking joint with a bar area at the front & a sunken dining room filled with scarlet banquettes beyond. Aside from the occasional foreign interloper – foie gras with brioche or seafood tagliatelle, say – the menu is resolutely British & generally well-executed. Kick off with seared asparagus, move on to haddock & chips, bangers & mash or grilled steak & finish with Bramley apple & rhubarb crumble. Weekends are a homely affair, with a brunch menu offering bacon butties & gammon & eggs, or Sunday lunches of roast beef with all the trimmings. The wine list offers 16 varieties by the glass, while the bar serves up a wide range of cocktails.
