Anyone expecting a traditional trattoria will be shocked by Kicca’s graphic orchid prints, girly-pink seating & opalescent tiled bar: this is sexy, statement dining, backed by a throaty soundtrack crooning amore. However, the restaurant’s regulars – young Sex & the City types & tanned couples just back from St Tropez – insist that the ‘consistently excellent’ food & speedy, ‘gracious’ service more than make up for the kooky interior. The seasonal menu combines ‘simplicity & sophistication’, according to one fan – think crab salad with asparagus & salsa verde, or scallops with baby-artichoke risotto – & the wine list stays comfortably inside the Italian boot, although a few Champagnes slip in almost unnoticed. Reports suggest the lurid decor is on the way out, but if it’s all too much, you can always retreat to the tiny suntrap terrace out front.
