Square Meal Review of Kicca ?

Anyone expecting a traditional trattoria will be shocked by Kicca’s graphic orchid prints, girly-pink seating & opalescent tiled bar: this is sexy, statement dining, backed by a throaty soundtrack crooning amore. However, the restaurant’s regulars – young Sex & the City types & tanned couples just back from St Tropez – insist that the ‘consistently excellent’ food & speedy, ‘gracious’ service more than make up for the kooky interior. The seasonal menu combines ‘simplicity & sophistication’, according to one fan – think crab salad with asparagus & salsa verde, or scallops with baby-artichoke risotto – & the wine list stays comfortably inside the Italian boot, although a few Champagnes slip in almost unnoticed. Reports suggest the lurid decor is on the way out, but if it’s all too much, you can always retreat to the tiny suntrap terrace out front.

In this restaurant Italian passion for food flows from the kitchen to the plate in a mix of simplicity and sophistication. Although the best dishes are not mentioned in the on line version, the menu offers a wide variety of authentic Italian dishes to enjoy. Its young chefs seem already to know how to put in a bid to provide some of the most authentic Italian flavours in London.
The only downside is that even if there are really friendly and polite waiters, service and atmosphere can be improved.
As English-born Italian I can finally say that the food served in this restaurant is the sort of food that would make one proud to be Italian.
I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

I have been to Kicca 3 times in the last few months, the latest being this week-end, and the food is consistently excellent. The service is quick and gracious and the atmosphere is relaxed. The decor, I agree, is not great, but I still think one goes to restaurants primarily to eat well rather than stare at a slick decor while eating grisly food. So Kicca for me cuts it. The best being its daily specials (I recently had a perfect spaghetti alle vongole, followed by a dreamy Dover sole) and my favourite remains its simplest dish: a plate of mozzarella and Parma ham. Heaven on a plate.
