With some of the most jaw-dropping views in London, Searcy’s outpost atop the Gherkin is an ‘amazing’ place to take a date, with food & presentation generally matching the setting’s sense of occasion. A light, creamy cod brandade with mango, nutmeg, hazelnut & crispy potato is fragrant with fresh dill, while canon of Launceston lamb is teamed with baba gannouj, smoked eel & aubergine crisps to satisfying effect. To conclude, try the cubist construction of blackcurrant & blueberry meringue. Service is clued-up (if ‘fussy’), & keener mark-ups have created a more readily ‘drinkable’ wine list, with grand names alongside more affordable, offbeat quaffing. Meals aren’t cheap (£42/49 for two/three courses), & unless you work in the building – or know someone who does – you’ll have to stump up £900 for annual membership.
