The Old Bull & Bush

The well-heeled residents of Hampstead Garden Suburb are in two minds about their long-established local, open since 1721, but thoroughly made over in 2006. It’s no longer the slouchy, laid-back place of old & the stylised decor looks too formulaic. But it still rustles up a good crowd of supporters, either drinking in the bar area to the right or eating in the smart dining room to the left. The food lacks finesse but is alright enough if you’re after something undemanding: pizzas, grills & salads are supplemented by daily specials such as grilled salmon with new potatoes, green beans & olives. The 40-odd wines offer good value & global coverage; otherwise there are cask ales & European beers. The courtyard area is popular with summer strollers after a promenade on nearby Hampstead Heath or Golders Hill Park.
