Review of The Captain Kidd:

The charming location of this riverside pub, reached by a tiny cobblestone alley, belies a gruesome history, having been the site of Captain Jack Kidd’s execution by public hanging in 1701. It’s high on ‘ye olde worlde’ atmosphere with flagstone floors, wood panelling & a warren of rooms leading out to a small terrace with river views. Upstairs, the appropriately named Gallows restaurant serves everything from wild boar & apple sausages to pan-fried salmon with a herb crust. There’s a long list of Samuel Smith beers & ales to choose from, as well as cocktails & a decent wine list.
