The ICA is (literally) an institution, & temporary (instant) membership is required of anyone aiming to drink in its bar. The mixed-age crowd here favours interesting clothing choices, DIY hairdos & curious spectacle frames. Bloggers & bluffers wax lyrical on the merits of some obscure multimedia presentation they have just witnessed, or eye up Fine Arts undergraduate totty in a sweatbox mezzanine bar at weekends, when DJs spin achingly hip jams. At other times it’s an airily agreeable space. Eight affordable wines, a dozen bargain cocktails plus Paulaner & Kingfisher on tap come with all-day food that includes fish stew & figs & Parma ham. Daytime dictates bloody Marys & several espressos for pallid souls who raised getting slaughtered into an art form the night before.
