Square Meal review of Gold Mine:
Although its relative newness makes Gold Mine look a tad smarter than some of its neighbours, there’s otherwise little in its appearance to suggest that this is anything else than another Queensway Chinese. The cooking, however, is far from ordinary. Rows of roast duck in the window indicate the unmissable dish here, & the Cantonese roast duck’s boneless, succulent meat, sandwiched with a layer of fat under a crisp envelope of shiny skin, is among the best around. Roast pork is also excellent, but Gold Mine is no one-trick pony: won ton with a sweet whole prawn at the centre of the crisp pastry, chunky slabs of bean curd & aubergine stuffed with vegetables, & a hot pot of yam & pork belly so soft & juicy it could have been sucked rather than chewed are just as impressive. Service is well paced & friendly; ask staff for a table in the back of the restaurant, which is more spacious than the front.
