A true chippie for Chelsea, Geales may put vinegar shakers on its white-clothed tables but smart staff, busy place settings and leather banquettes are a timely reminder of the chi-chi neighbourhood it serves. Porthole windows and seafaring photography chime with a menu that gives fish and chips top billing – expect crunchy batter, ample fillets of cod or haddock and big helpings of crisp but fluffy chips. The kitchen also knocks out some no-nonsense Brit classics ranging from deep-fried calamari rings and fish pie to tumblers of prawn cocktail jazzed up with rocket and avocado, while puds are mostly calorific nursery fodder – although you might find room for a cleansing homemade sorbet (blood orange and passion fruit). The wine list is tilted towards whites, and prices are fair for this well-to-do neighbourhood.

best fish I’ve had in london – or at the least the best that I can recall, located near high street kensington. I am really excited about sharing this with you – it was such a fantastic meal with staggering portions, my family had a lark of a time (especially because we love fish and seafood) and I am still berating myself over the fact that I never visited once in the last four years – truly idiotic behaviour. I implore you to learn from my mistake and come have a great dinner here...
