Square Meal review of Wine Factory:
With a moniker like that, it’s not hard to guess the name of the game at the Wine Factory: wine & Champagne that’s sold at wholesale prices, so that a bottle of house fizz weighs in at a wallet-saving £20. A favourite link in the Brinkley’s chain, the Wine Factory also offers affordably priced food from a menu of well-executed global classics. A plate of bluefin tuna & marinated salmon sashimi might be followed by king prawn linguine with chilli & pine nuts, with bread-&-butter panettone pudding to finish. This is a trusted favourite for anyone looking for a bit of good-value fun.
Wine List: The all-Italian list is surprisingly compact (35 bins), considering the quality of food on offer here. The mixture of classic Italy & lesser-known regions is well selected, however there are downsides: prices start at a hefty £21.95 for house wine & the way the list is written means you need to know your stuff to have any idea which region of Italy the wines come from. Best Buy White 2006 Soave Monte Fiorentine, Ca’Rugate, Veneto, Italy, £29.95. Best Buy Red 2005 Le Volte Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Bolgheri, Italy, £33.50.
