Square Meal review of Alounak:

One half of a west London duo of Iranian restaurants (the other is at 44 Westbourne Grove, tel: 7229 4158) occupies two rooms just off the main drag linking Shepherd’s Bush & Olympia. The food is good. Starters such as paneer sabzi arrive with mounds of fresh tarragon & fragrant mint, while hoummos & halim bademjan (mashed aubergine) are eaten with warm flatbreads baked to order. Main courses major in skewers of diced fillet of halal lamb or chicken served on a bed of fluffy rice or bread with a grilled tomato, & there is also a daily special. The drinks menu consists of soft drinks & lassi or else it’s BYO with a low corkage. Finish off with a cup of Iranian tea laced with mint & some tooth-rottingly sugary sweets. Always full of groups of friends & families, Alounak makes for a lively & reasonably priced night out.
